Why is renting a textbook still expensive?

Michal Semple: there are 2 types of renting*

Shamika Schools: A lot of the times renting can be more expensive in the end. What is the point in only saving $40 versus buying the book, when you could sell the book back for $60?

Raven Purl: Renting is not that expensive compared the buying used and especially buying new, obviously. Renting takes off a substantial amount of money and you don't have to worry about selling it back at the end of the semester. I think you are taking the viewpoint as the rent company and the person renting which is quite confusing but either way your original question implied that you were the student, so. Rent the book if you are not that major; buy it used if you are that major! No getting around that. Expense is something that colleges push on you tremendously, whether anyone denies it or not, it starts when you BUY your application. Get used to paying for everything. Find the deals. And spend your money where you feel is fit!...Sh! ow more

Mauro Cowee: You're making no sense. Making 100% profit? Sounds good! How?If the money is just a deposit which is reimbursed, how is the book purchased to begin with? How are the people paid who run the service? Where dies any percent of profit come from?...Show more
