Hyman Coren: 26children for the last 2,000 years havn't needed cellphones, why should they need one today?
Melvina Bieri: @Joel1-2 years isn't a big difference.and in answer to the original question. it depends on some factorswhere you live:who they hang out with.if you want to keep in contact when they are out with friends (and friends parents.)if they live quite far away from school/other friends.or, if they live close enough to school and walk....Show more
Cherry Stampka: I had one at age 13 and it was a crappy flip phone. As of now I'm 15 and have a regular keyboard phone. I don't get what I see a bunch 11 and 12 year old kids with smartphones.
Melvin Nakama: I would say twelve or thirteen whn they want to communicate more. If they just want to talk/text, I'd recommend an LG Rumor, but if they want to have entertainment or something, an iPhone would be the best way to go.
Nilda Bafia: the age where they start doing things on their own. a 16 yea! r old who doesnt go anywhere on their own doesnt need a cellphone, but an 11 year old who walks to school on their own everyday does need one.
Bethany Blocker: When they can afford a prepaid and the airtime cards. When they start to drive, they need a cell phone even if it's just a tracfone with minimal minutes.
Dorethea Beaston: It really depends on the kid. If your kid's the type to stay home a lot and not go out by himself/herself, your kid won't need a cell phone for a while. On the other hand, if the reverse is true, you might want to consider buying a phone. Basically, you should buy your child a phone when they start going out by themselves where you can't contact them immediately. But as a general rule of thumb, I think either middle school or when your kid becomes a teenager is a good time to buy a phone. I myself got my first phone in 8th grade (13 years old)....Show more
Krystal Cordovano: i think the ideal age to have a cell phone is when the k! id is going out more with friends. that way you can keep track! of where they are, and you can contact him/her if there is a problem.
Nannie Kasee: Honstly - 16.....older let them buy it them selfs , there the most anti social load of crap these days you see kids im'ing each other right next to each other , they make people stupid and unable to talk.I know it sounds harsh but just look around and you see 10 kids on a steps of a school just texting ppl and not even horsing around or playing any more they have no clue what fun is unless its got buttons !...Show more
Aron Ramu: Hmm, it depends. If the child goes home walking or smethin like that then maybe 11/12 around there. But if they don't. Probably the age 15/16.
