Miguel Densley: The truth is that labor is cheaper in other countries and jobs move to where it is cheaper. Education only helps us compete internationally for jobs but in the home job market when everybody increases their education level it makes education cheaper in the job market. The relative importance of a high school education has changed dramatically over the last half century in the United States. When the grandparents of today's high school students entered adulthood, a high school education was an asset in the labor force, held by about half of the population ages 25 through 29 in 195021. By the early 1970s, when the parents of today's high school students entered the workforce, about 83 to 84 percent of the population ages 18 through 24 who were not enrolled in high school had completed high school (figure 3 and table B7). At that time, a high school education still served as an entryway to a number of promising career paths. Now, three decades later, technolo! gical advances in the workplace have increased the demand for a skilled labor force to the point where a high school education serves more as a minimum requirement for entry into the labor force. Completing a high school education is now even more essential in order to access additional education and training for the labor force....Show more
Alexandria Popik: Not just blacks, everybody. But one major mistake that blacks made with our current president is thinking they would get special benefits just for being black. Whites don't get benefits when a white man is president, and many blacks, except for conservative ones, made the mistake of thinking that being black would be used to their advantage.
Talisha Digrande: You have to want to work.
Dorinda Metzer: Obama is hard on black people. Look at the millions of hispanics he wants in America that Obama wants taking blacks jobs. A black dependent on the government is a black in the libs pocket for life.
Salvatore Walls: De-industrializing the USA has a lot to do! with. Not everyone can be a banker or a stockbroker.Porfirio Gartland: it's that gosh darned George W Bush!..HE'S the one who refuses to allow Obama to fix things!..
Raleigh Lufkin: This problem isn't exclusive amongst blacks. With all the hoopla about an improved economy, the fact is it has only improved for the top 5%. Minimum paying jobs are at an all time high and corporate America would like to see this continue, thus their support for amnesty. A high number of low paying help equates to low wages. In the meantime corporate profits are at an all time high, and this accounts for a robust stock market. You see, investors love high profits, but it has nothing to do with a healthy economy, or very little. The economy can suck while the stock market is bullish !As a Conservative, I favor a robust increase in the minimum wage. Since corporate America has failed the average worker for the last six years, maybe its time they saw a little push back. ! Maybe some jobs will be lost. Maybe some businesses will close. If a company is so economically fragile as this, perhaps it should close and make way for company's and people who know how to adjust to economic down turns....Show more
Phil Kuarez: more education...no.the drop out rate is very high, so not enough education.
Nell Dipiero: 25% is not an all time high for black poverty. Not even close.
Lorine Helwick: It is only Obama 's fault.
Lissette Semon: Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, D-Mo., the chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, said last year, âIf (former President) Bill Clinton had been in the White House and had failed to address this problem, we probably would be marching on the White House.âThe problem to which Cleaver refers is black unemployment. At the beginning of the Obama administration, 12.7 percent of black adults seeking work were unemployed. Black unemployment is now 14.1 percent. Black teenage unemployment at the beginning ! of the Obama administration was 35.2 percent. Black teenage unemploymen! t is now 37.9 percent.Last month, Cleaver said: âAs the chair of the Black Caucus, Iâve got to tell you, we are always hesitant to criticize the President. With 14 percent (black) unemployment, if we had a white president weâd be marching around the White House. ⦠The President knows we are going to act in deference to him in a way we wouldnât to someone white.â...Show more
Shon Almquist: The poor economy under President Obama has hit minority communities like the African American and Hispanic communities harder than anyone else.African American unemployment is higher than any of the others.
Oscar Wieland: I would say sending jobs overseas has all to do with it. White people get the majority of any crummy jobs that are left.
